Democratic state representative calls prayers after mass shootings 'theological malpractice'

A Tennessee Democratic state representative on Saturday condemned the customary expression of "thoughts and prayers" after a mass shooting, calling it "theological malpractice," and likened America’s relationship with gun manufacturers to idolatry.

"I want to bring theology into this because you have all these people who want to give thoughts and prayers after a shooting, but I was a minister and that is a form of theological malpractice," Tennessee state Rep. Justin Jones told MSNBC’s Ali Velshi.

The two were discussing the recent mass shooting at the church at the Annunciation Catholic School in Minnesota that killed an 8-year-old boy and 10-year-old girl on Wednesday, Aug. 27. The children were killed by transgender woman Robin Westman, 23, according to local police and the Department of Homeland Security. Westman's gun featured antisemitic messages, including "6 million wasn’t enough" and "extra thicc Jew gas." His mother worked at the church until 2021.

Jones further criticized the nation’s posture toward gun makers as a form of idolatry. "When you pray for something that you have the power to change... What we’re seeing is a form of idolatry, where we’re willing to worship the lives of our children to appease the prophets of the gun industry," he said.

Jones was elected to the Tennessee State House in 2023 and was part of the "Tennessee Three" who staged a protest on the House floor for gun reform following the mass shooting at the Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee. The shooting, also perpetrated by a trans woman, Audrey Hale, killed three children and three adults. Jones, along with Democratic state representatives Justin Pearson and Gloria Johnson, led chants inside the chamber and disrupted House proceedings. Jones and Pearson were expelled from the House because of their disruption. Jones later won back his House seat.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, Democrats made comments that appeared to attack the concept of prayer. 

"Prayer is not freaking enough. Prayers does not end school shootings. prayers do not make parents feel safe sending their kids to school. Prayer does not bring these kids back. Enough with the thoughts and prayers," former Biden White House press secretary Jen Psaki wrote on X.

Conservatives and others were quick to attack Psaki for her tone-deaf remarks, with Democrat-turned-Trump Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard accusing her of having "hatred for God."

"So why is it that people like Jen Psaki and others have such a spontaneous visceral negative reaction to those who are praying to God for refuge, strength, and for the wellbeing of the victims of this heinous attack? Because they do not believe in God or His love. Their response is rooted in their hatred of God," Gabbard added. "They want to be God, so they view Him as their competitor. They are agents of darkness and hatred, and the light of God’s love is a threat to their dark ambitions," Gabbard posted on X on Aug. 29.

Foreign travelers soon to pay 'visa integrity fee' to visit the U.S. costing $250

The Trump administration continues to take a harder stance on foreign visitors with a "visa integrity fee" to be implemented on Oct. 1. 

The fee would charge non-immigrant travelers visiting the U.S. $250 due at the time visas are issued and was enacted as part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

Countries such as Mexico, China, and Brazil will take on the most heat, with the cost for non-visa waiver countries now nearing $442, per the U.S. Travel Association.

The largest numbers of international visitors in May were from Mexico, Canada, the United Kingdom, India and Brazil, according to the International Inbound Travel Association.

Gabe Rizzi, global travel management company Altour president, told Reuters that "any friction we add to the traveler experience is going to cut travel volumes by some amount."

"As the summer ends this will become a more pressing issue, and we'll have to factor the fees into travel budgets and documentation," Rizzi added.

Overseas visitors to the U.S. dropped 3.1% in July from the same time last year, according to Reuters. 

The new fee comes as the U.S. prepares to host America250 events, the Olympics and the FIFA World Cup matches.

"International visitor spending to the U.S. is projected to fall to just under $169BN this year, down from $181BN in 2024," notes a World Travel & Tourism Council report.

Tourism Economics director of industry studies Aran Ryan told Reuters that overseas travel to the U.S. this year would grow over 10% year over year, but the latest projections now show a 3% decline.

The U.S. isn’t alone—countries worldwide are adding entry fees and tightening screening to capitalize on tourism while cracking down on abuse.

The British government recently rolled out an "Electronic Travel Authorization" (ETA) that digitizes tourists' requests to visit the country while paying a fee of about $13. 

The ETAs are linked to a traveler’s passport in an effort to smooth security checks and "prevent abuse" of the immigration system.

On Wednesday, the Trump administration proposed a rule to limit the length of time international students can remain in the U.S. for their studies to four years and the duration of visas for cultural exchange visitors and members of the media.

The rule would limit how long certain visa holders are allowed to stay in the U.S., according to a press release from the Department of Homeland Security.

It seeks to curb "visa abuse" and increase the agency's ability to "properly vet and oversee these individuals."

DOJ calls for tips on employers favoring foreign workers in hiring practices

The Department of Justice is asking people to report illegal visa practices that could come at the expense of American workers.

Citizens are being urged to flag "discriminatory" advertisements for jobs, especially ones that state that the employer prefers people on a seasonal or H-1B visa.

"Are you an American citizen who has been harmed by inappropriate preferences for foreign workers, eg H1-B or other? Follow the link. It’s also a place to report human trafficking of immigrant workers, and Title VII employment discrimination," Harmeet Dhillon, assistant attorney general for civil rights at the DOJ, posted to X on Friday.

The DOJ is also allowing people to send in tips for possible human trafficking violations related to temporary visa programs.

H-1B visas were the subject of debate earlier this year, as many opponents argued they hinder American talent in key sectors like technology, whereas others believe it bolsters the economy.

"The main function of the H-1B visa program and other guest worker initiatives is not to hire ‘the best and the brightest,’ but rather to replace good-paying American jobs with low-wage indentured servants from abroad," Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-VT, posted to X in January. "The cheaper the labor they hire, the more money the billionaires make."

H-1B visas for fiscal year 2026 have already hit the legal petition limit with 65,000 that are standard, and an additional 20,000 for those with advanced degrees, according to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. The visas are primarily meant for skilled workers, including "architecture, engineering, mathematics, physical sciences, social sciences, medicine and health, education, business specialties, accounting, law, theology, and the arts," according to the agency’s website.

Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis said the program has "become a total scam" in an interview with Fox News Channel’s Laura Ingraham on Tuesday.

"These companies game the system. You have some of these companies that are laying off large numbers of Americans while they're also getting new H-1 Bs and renewing existing H-1 Bs," DeSantis said.

"A lot of times people used to say, 'Well, you know, we're getting the cream of the crop from all around the world.' The reality is that's not actually what H1Bs are. Major visa reform is already underway in the U.S., as the Trump administration is reviewing all 55 million visas to make sure people who are in the country are following the law.

"The department’s continuous vetting includes all of the more than 55 million foreigners who currently hold valid U.S. visas," a State Department spokesperson told Fox News Digital last week.

A visa could potentially be nixed by the department if there have been "overstays, criminal activity, threats to public safety, engaging in any form of terrorist activity or providing support to a terrorist organization."

Cardi B's testimony sparks online frenzy as rapper denies assaulting security guard in 2018

Cardi B's testimony in her civil trial has captivated the internet as clips of the fiery exchanges went viral.

The A-list rapper appeared in court to fight accusations that she physically assaulted a security guard in 2018. Emani Ellis was following her around an obstetrician’s office, seemingly recording the musician, Cardi testified. The office had been closed to the public for Cardi's privacy as she had not announced the news that she was expecting her first child.

Cardi B's testimony about Ellis' weight, the rapper's wigs and more have gone viral as many have found her responses humorous.

When asked about Ellis' height compared to Cardi's, she explained "we was face-to-face, so she's practically like my height. Or just a smudge taller. But she was practically like my height. But she is like…"

"What does security-heavy mean? Just tell us. There's no harm. What does that mean?" the lawyer questioned.

"She just looks a little, like she could protect the building type …," Cardi answered. "She just looked more developed than me."

Many reacted to her comments online, with one user writing, "Cardi B in court today was like an SNL skit."

The 32-year-old rapper testified Wednesday that she never touched the security guard, who accused her of cutting her face with a fingernail and spitting on her during an altercation outside the obstetrician’s office when Cardi was four months pregnant.

When being questioned by her own attorney, Cardi explained why she kept her pregnancy secret at the time — just seven months after releasing her first major hit, "Bodak Yellow," during what she called her "freshman year" of stardom.

"I was getting used to things," Cardi said. "I was just so worried about what everybody was saying and thinking. I thought I was letting a lot of people down."

Cardi claimed at the time she hadn't even shared the news with her own parents.

During her testimony, Cardi was asked if she was "disabled" at the time of the alleged physical altercation.

"When you’re pregnant, I’m very disabled," she quipped. "You want me to tell you things I can’t do?" Cardi added as people in the courtroom laughed.

Cardi B's changing hair also caught the attention of the plaintiff's lawyer. The rapper switched between a blonde and a black wig as she appeared in the civil courtroom.

"Which one is your real hair?" the lawyer asked. "Or are they both real?"

The question seemingly amused Cardi. "They’re wigs," she answered while laughing.

CDC official includes 'pregnant people' terminology and pronouns in resignation letter

A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention official who posted his resignation letter on social media used the term "pregnant people" and capped off his missive by including "he/his/him" pronouns after his name.

"I am writing to formally resign from my position as Director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), effective August 28, 2025, close of business," Dr. Demetre Daskalakis wrote in the lengthy post on X.

Daskalakis accused President Donald Trump's administration of attempting "to erase transgender populations."

"For decades, I have been a trusted voice for the LGBTQ community when it comes to critical health topics. I must also cite the recklessness of the administration in their efforts to erase transgender populations, cease critical domestic and international HIV programming, and terminate key research to support equity as part of my decision," he wrote.

The inclusion of pronouns and the term "pregnant people" caught people's attention.

"This resignation is a huge win for the Trump administration and the American people. We don’t need anyone who can’t understand basic biology working at the CDC," noted Jeremy Redfern, communications director for Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier.

Karol Markowicz tweeted, "No one who uses ‘pregnant people’ should work at the CDC. This isn't hard." 

Responding to Markowicz's post, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis wrote, "Example of how ‘trusting the science’ really means following the political science and perpetuating the prevailing narrative…" He added, "Embracing evidence-based medicine should be the bare minimum for working at the CDC…"

Daskalakis suggested that the Department of Health and Human Services is on a "dangerous" path.

If they continue the current path, they risk our personal well-being and the security of the United States," Daskalakis concluded at the end of his message.

Socialist candidate Mamdani meets with NY Dems as they withhold endorsements

New York City Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani met with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., and Rep. Yvette Clarke, D-N.Y., on Tuesday, as New York Democrats continue to withhold their endorsements ahead of the November election. 

"Zohran joined Congresswoman Clarke and Congressman Jeffries today to meet with Black clergy leaders from across central Brooklyn," Mamdani campaign spokesperson Dora Pekec told Fox News. 

Jeffries and Clarke are among the Democratic leaders, including Gov. Kathy Hochul and Senate Minority Leader Sen. Chuck Schumer, who have yet to endorse Mamdani following his primary win in June. 

"They engaged in a wide-ranging discussion on a number of issues, including the urgent affordability crisis and the exodus of Black New Yorkers from the five boroughs—and Zohran shared his agenda to make sure every New Yorker can afford to continue to call this city home and live a life of dignity," Mamdani's campaign said. 

JEFFRIES DECLINES TO ENDORSE MAMDANI, SAYS THEY WILL MEET AFTER UGANDA TRIP

Tuesday's meeting was held at a church in Beford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, which is in the heart of Jeffries' congressional district. Clarke, who also represents parts of Brooklyn, is chair of the Black Congressional Caucus. 

JEFFRIES GIVES ANSWER FOR NOT YET ENDORSING MAMDANI FOR NYC MAYOR

"I think there was a very meaningful exchange," Clarke told NY1 after the meeting. "Assemblyman Mamdani has a platform that he’s been running on, and they wanted to know how that’s applicable to the communities they reside in."

Clarke said the pastors "wanted an intimate setting where they could really speak to their lived experiences, the lived experiences of their congregants."

She told the same outlet last month that she wanted to ask Mamdani about his past refusal to condemn the term "globalize the intifada," a term he has since said he would discourage others from using. 

"I think that it's best that I have this conversation so that my credibility among my constituents is, you know, intact," she told NY1, referencing the large Jewish community in her Brooklyn district. 

Jeffries met with Mamdani earlier this summer, but the House minority leader has stopped short of endorsing the self-described democratic socialist candidate. 

Jeffries confirmed to CNN's "State of the Union" on Sunday his plan to meet with Mamdani this week, while reiterating that his first meeting with Mamdani in July was "very candid and constructive and community-centered."

"I don't think we've withheld an endorsement," Jeffries said. "We are engaging in a conversation about the future of New York City, about the issues that need to be addressed."

While both Democrats stopped short of endorsing Mamdani after their meeting on Tuesday, other New York Democrats, including Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Nydia Velázquez, Jerry Nadler and Adriano Espaillat have thrown their political weight behind the 33-year-old candidate. 

Mamdani also traveled to Washington, D.C., earlier this summer, where the mayoral hopeful and Ocasio-Cortez hosted a breakfast with national Democrats. Mamdani met with several progressive leaders, including Sen. Bernie Sanders, an early endorser of his campaign. 

Still, New York Democratic Reps. Tom Suozzi, Dan Goldman, Gregory Meeks, Ritchie Torres, George Latimer and Grace Meng have yet to endorse Mamdani.

Over 2B users face phishing risks after Google data leak

A tech leader like Google often seems invincible when it comes to cybersecurity attacks, but that is not the case. Earlier this month, the search giant confirmed that attackers had accessed one of its corporate Salesforce instances. According to a Google spokesperson, this system stored basic, and largely publicly available business information, such as contact details and notes from small and medium-sized companies. It did not store customer data from Google Cloud or consumer products like Gmail, Drive or Calendar.

Google says it terminated the malicious activity, completed an impact analysis, and provided mitigations. Therefore, no further action is required by users.

Hackers have reportedly accessed Google's Salesforce database systems, exposing customer and company names. Google confirmed the incident and clarified that the information was mostly public business contact data and did not include passwords or payment information. The company stressed that the breach affected only a corporate Salesforce system, not consumer Gmail or Google Cloud accounts.

Still, attackers are exploiting the news of the breach to fuel phishing and vishing scams, tricking people into giving up sensitive information. According to PC World, some users have already reported an increase in phishing attempts that reference Google services.

One of the main tactics involves scam phone calls, also known as vishing. A Reddit post highlighted a wave of calls coming from the 650 area code, which is linked to Google's headquarters. In these calls, scammers pose as Google employees and warn victims of a supposed security breach. They then instruct users to reset their Gmail password and share it with them. This locks the rightful owner out of the account and gives the attacker complete control.

Separately from the Salesforce incident, Google Cloud customers are also facing another type of attack. Hackers are trying to exploit outdated access addresses using a method called the dangling bucket. This can allow them to inject malware or steal data. Both businesses and individuals are vulnerable to losing control over sensitive information if targeted in this way.

Gmail and Google Cloud serve nearly 2.5 billion people, which makes the scale of the risk significant. Although the initial breach did not expose passwords, attackers are using the news of the incident to trick people into revealing their login details.

Phishing remains the most common way scammers steal Google account credentials. A fake email or text may claim your account has been locked or that you need to verify suspicious activity. Elderly women rescued from hot tub at remote Kentucky cabin

A girls’ trip to a remote cabin in Kentucky nearly ended in tragedy when two women in their 80s took a soak in a hot tub and could not get themselves out of the heated water, rescuers said on Friday.

The group was enjoying a dip in the hot tub at a cabin in the Red River Gorge area in southeastern Kentucky earlier this month when two of the elderly women "were unable to get out of the tub because of pre-existing issues," the Wolfe County Search and Rescue Team (WSCART) said in a post on its website.

Rescuers said the two women became unresponsive in the heated water after developing hyperthermia, a condition in which the body is overheated and cannot cool down.

A third woman got into the hot tub to keep their heads above the swirling water, while a fourth woman called 911 for help, according to the rescue team.

Caretakers at the cabin had pulled the two women out of the hot tub when WSCART and the Wolfe County Sheriff’s Office arrived. One woman was partially responsive while the other was completely unresponsive and in critical condition. 

The unresponsive woman was taken to a shower, where the team applied cold water and ice. The partially responsive woman was moved outside where rescuers cooled her down using a hose and ice.

Both women began to show signs of recovery after 20 to 30 minutes of cold-water immersion. EMS then transferred the women to a local hospital.

No details were immediately provided about the women's pre-existing issues.

WSCART said the story is a "cautionary and educational moment," warning the public that the recommended time for a hot tub soak is between 15 and 30 minutes.

"Ensure you are capable of exiting the hot tub once you enter, especially if you have any sort of disability," the rescue team said. "Hyperthermia and heatstroke can be fatal, and this story could have ended much differently without the quick thinking of all those involved with this rescue."

Trump threatens lawsuit over century-old Senate tradition delaying his nominees

President Donald Trump on Monday threatened a lawsuit over the Senate’s century-old "blue slip" tradition that he says makes it "impossible" for him to appoint a judge or U.S. attorney.

Trump made the comments to reporters in the Oval Office while signing executive orders regarding the elimination of cashless bail policies.

"We're also going to be filing a lawsuit on blue slipping," Trump said. "You know, blue slips make it impossible for me as president to appoint a judge or a U.S. attorney because they have a gentlemen's agreement that's about 100 years old."

The blue slip, which is the practice of having a state's senators give their approval for nominees for positions in their state like federal judges and U.S. attorneys, is a long-standing tradition but not a codified law. Constitutionally, the president has the power to nominate while the Senate ultimately approves or rejects that nomination.

Trump said that "if you have a president like a Republican, and if you have a Democrat senator, that senator can stop you from appointing a judge or a U.S. attorney in particular."

Trump’s frustration with the Senate’s blue slip practice isn’t new. In July, he called the tradition a "hoax" and a "scam" used by Democrats to block his nominees, and demanded that Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, stop supporting them.

Grassley has defended the century-old process, saying he views it as a norm worth preserving for balance and state input.

Trump on Sunday blasted the tradition, telling Grassley in a social media post that he should tell Democrats to "go to HELL" over using blue slips to block his nominees.

In his first term, Trump was able to appoint 234 federal judges, including three Supreme Court justices and 54 appellate court judges. However, this term he has only confirmed five in the first seven months.

Trump flag-burning executive order could flip First Amendment on its head with new court

President Donald Trump and his administration are likely set to challenge a Supreme Court ruling that protected the burning of the American flag under the First Amendment with a new executive order calling for those who desecrate the U.S. flag while inciting violence or breaking other laws to face prosecution. 

The executive order, which Trump signed Monday morning, directs the attorney general to prosecute those who violate laws "in ways that involve desecrating the flag," and to pursue litigation that would clarify the scope of the First Amendment as it relates to flag desecration. 

Burning the American flag, however, already has been litigated, with the Supreme Court ruling in 1989 that burning the flag is a form of symbolic speech that is protected by the First Amendment. 

"I think what the president is saying, is that he's ordering Attorney General Pam Bondi, Justice Department lawyers to prosecute those who maliciously burn an American flag," Zack Smith, senior legal fellow at the Heritage Foundation's Edwin Meese III Center for Legal and Judicial Studies, told Fox News Digital Monday. "And what that would essentially do is tee up a challenge eventually for the Supreme Court to revisit and potentially overturn its prior precedent saying that burning an American flag is protected speech."

TRUMP TO CRACK DOWN ON FLAG BURNING, DESECRATION WITH EXECUTIVE ORDER

The 1989 case centered on political protester Gregory Lee Johnson, who burned the American flag in 1984 outside the Republican National Convention in Dallas to protest President Ronald Reagan's re-election. 

"America, the red, white, and blue, we spit on you," protesters chanted as Johnson lit the flag on fire, according to details in the case, called Texas v. Johnson. 

Johnson was charged under the Texas Venerated Objects Statute, a state law that prevented individuals from vandalizing respected objects such as the U.S. flag. Johnson was found guilty in 1985 and sentenced to one year behind bars and a $2,000 fine, but appealed the ruling. 

The Supreme Court agreed to hear the case in 1989, with the nation's highest court ruling in a 5–4 decision that burning the American flag was protected speech under the First Amendment. The Supreme Court held a conservative majority at the time.

Justice William J. Brennan, a Democrat nominated by former President Dwight Eisenhower, issued the majority opinion, and argued "that the government may not prohibit the expression of an idea simply because society finds the idea itself offensive or disagreeable."

"We can imagine no more appropriate response to burning a flag than waving one's own, no better way to counter a flag-burner's message than by saluting the flag that burns, no surer means of preserving the dignity even of the flag that burned than by — as one witness here did — according its remains a respectful burial," the majority opinion read. "We do not consecrate the flag by punishing its desecration, for in doing so we dilute the freedom that this cherished emblem represents." 

Justices Thurgood Marshall, Harry A. Blackmun, Antonin Scalia and Anthony M. Kennedy joined Brennan in the majority opinion. Chief Justice William Rehnquist authored the court's dissenting opinion, arguing that the American flag holds a unique status in the U.S. that should protect it from acts such as burning. 

In 1990, the Supreme Court reaffirmed its ruling the year prior, while invalidating Congress' Flag Protection Act of 1989, which lawmakers passed in response to the Supreme Court's Texas v. Johnson ruling.

Trump's Monday executive order calls on the attorney general specifically to launch legal efforts to clarify "the scope of the First Amendment."

The executive order states: "To the maximum extent permitted by the Constitution, the Attorney General shall vigorously prosecute those who violate our laws in ways that involve desecrating the American Flag, and may pursue litigation to clarify the scope of the First Amendment exceptions in this area."

Justice Clarence Thomas provided some insight in 2003 into where he stands with the burning of venerated objects, offering a dissenting opinion in the case Virginia v. Black on the burning of crosses. 

Thomas cited Rehnquist’s dissenting opinion in Texas v. Johnson in his 2003 dissenting opinion on cross-burning. 

"In every culture, certain things acquire meaning well beyond what outsiders can comprehend. That goes for both the sacred, see Texas v. Johnson, 491 U. S. 397, 422-429 (1989) (REHNQUIST, C. J., dissenting) (describing the unique position of the American flag in our Nation's 200 years of history), and the profane. I believe that cross burning is the paradigmatic example of the latter," he wrote in 2003. 

Smith pointed to two dynamics to watch out for with regard to a potential flag-burning case landing on Supreme Court's docket in the future: that some justices have expressed "some concern that potentially expressive conduct has been read too broadly," and how the justices will apply stare decisis, which is legal doctrine outlining courts should follow established precedents, such as the 1989 ruling. 

"I think a couple of things are happening here," he said. "I think some justices have expressed some concern that potentially expressive conduct has been read too broadly. Things that are really conduct, not speech, have been read to be protected, and maybe they should not be protected, as protected as they have been in the past."

"The other interesting dynamic, I think that you should watch for, is how certain justices will apply what's known as stare decisis, and essentially that's the fancy Latin term. It means that 'they decided,’" Smith continued. "Several times recently, Chief Justice Roberts in particular, has said that even though he disagrees on the merits with the… decision the Supreme Court is reaching, he has joined the majority anyway because he believes stare decisis should apply and the court should not overturn or revisit its previous decisions in this area. Even though he may subsequently disagree with it."

Trump celebrated the executive order during the Monday signing ceremony in the Oval Office, saying the 1989 Supreme Court ruling protecting flag burning was made by a "very sad court." 

"Flag burning. All over the country, they're burning flags. All over the world, they burn the American flag," he said. "And as you know, through a very sad court, I guess there was a 5 to 4 decision. They called it freedom of speech." 

"But there's another reason, which is perhaps much more important," he said. "It's called death. Because what happens when you burn a flag is the area goes crazy. If you have hundreds of people, they go crazy." 

"You could do other things. You can burn this piece of paper," he said. "But when you burn the American flag, it incites riots at levels that we've never seen before."

First Amendment groups such as the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression slammed the executive order in comments provided to Fox News Digital, saying Trump does not have the "power to revise the First Amendment with the stroke of a pen."

"Flag burning as a form of political protest is protected by the First Amendment," Bob Corn-Revere, Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression chief counsel, said in Monday comment. "That’s nothing new. While people can be prosecuted for burning anything in a place they aren’t allowed to set fires, the government can’t prosecute protected expressive activity — even if many Americans, including the president, find it "uniquely offensive and provocative."

Chicago’s crime crisis is a national disgrace — Trump must step in now

At a certain point, it becomes logical to ask oneself if various mayors and so-called leaders around the country view their desperately struggling constituents as nothing more than cheap disposable pawns to be moved around a political chessboard in service to personal enrichment, ideology and hate? If so, then one of the first cities to focus upon would be Chicago.

As with saving the overwhelmed residents of Washington, D.C. from the continual failures of its "leadership," there are reports that President Donald Trump is eyeing Chicago as the next test case.  He must, because in many ways, the people of the Windy City are suffering much more than residents in any other large urban city.

Let me give you two truly horrifying reasons why that is so: As the Chicago Tribune reported several years ago, over the past 60 years, more than 40,000 men, women and children have been murdered in the city. More than 1 million have been wounded, most of them Black, thousands of them innocent bystanders, including hundreds of children.

Those are not just statistics. They are obscenities and a national disgrace which should galvanize any leader into action. Yet, not only are these literal crimes against humanity not addressed, but they are also not acknowledged, because they will reflect poorly upon those whose policies and failures allowed them to happen.

Please pause for just a few seconds to try and wrap your mind around that jaw-dropping, shocking and truly gruesome number: 40,000 men, women and children murdered in just one American city. Again, that is not a statistic. It is a "killed in action" report from a foreign war.

And speaking of foreign wars, it tragically gets much worse for the people – and especially children – of Chicago. An impossible-to-believe headline from the Chicago Sun-Times a few years ago stated: "Violence in some Chicago neighborhoods puts young men at greater risk than U.S. troops faced in Iraq, Afghanistan war zones, study finds."

As the paper reported, "The risk of a man 18 to 29 years old dying in a shooting in the most violent ZIP code in Chicago… was higher than the death rate for U.S. soldiers in the Afghanistan war or for soldiers in an Army combat brigade that fought in Iraq."

But that is not the worst of the news – or reality – highlighted by that headline. No. The worst reality regarding that disgustingly distressing headline is the fact that school children must cross that "war zone" twice a day to get back and forth to school. Children. And for what? To get to schools which are failing to educate them in service to seemingly corrupt teachers unions.

Following the reports that President Trump wants to do all in his power to save the beleaguered residents of Chicago, Democratic Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker pompously accused Trump of "abusing his power." 

Posted the failing governor in part on X: "The State of Illinois at this time has received no requests or outreach from the federal government asking if we need assistance, and we have made no requests for federal intervention."

Gee, I have a suggestion for the attention-seeking governor, who is desperate to become the Democratic nominee for president in 2028: "Why don’t we conduct an actual poll of the most at-risk residents of Chicago to ask if they may want ‘federal intervention’ to save them from spiraling violent crime; crumbling infrastructures; lack of basic services; and the purposeful denial of education for their children?"

The governor further posted: "The safety of the people of Illinois is always my top priority. There is no emergency that warrants the President of the United States federalizing the @IL_Natl_Guard, deploying the National Guard from other states, or sending active duty military within our own borders."

Is he kidding? Is that his punch line to an extremely cruel joke? Over 40,000 murdered. School children having to traverse literal "war zones" twice a day to get to and depart from schools which do nothing to educate them. Just those two disgraceful and entirely preventable realities don’t rise to the level of "emergency" for Pritzker?

President Trump can’t save the city of Chicago fast enough from those using the city’s disenfranchised residents for their own selfish interests.

Mamdani reveals which Dem cities are 'model for how to fight' Trump admin in NYC

Boston and Los Angeles are providing a "model for how to fight" President Donald Trump's sweeping second-term agenda in New York City, Zohran Mamdani claimed on Monday. 

"We have seen that the best way to fight Donald Trump is to do exactly that. It's to fight him. It's not to cower. It's not to collaborate. It's not to call him," Mamdani told reporters in Brooklyn in an apparent jab at his competitor, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo. 

When asked how the Democratic mayoral nominee would respond if Trump moved to eliminate cashless bail in New York City, as he did in Washington, D.C., on Monday morning, Mamdani vowed to fight. 

"The Trump administration is one that we can see a model for how to fight it across this country. You can see that in Mayor Wu in Boston. We can also see it internationally with President Sheinbaum of Mexico," Mamdani said.

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has rejected Trump's crackdown on illegal immigration since he won back the presidency last year.

Specifically, she reaffirmed and strengthened The Trust Act, an ordinance that limits local cooperation with federal immigration authorities, in Dec. 2024 ahead of Trump's second term. 

When Attorney General Pam Bondi sent her and fellow blue-city leaders a letter threatening federal action over Boston's sanctuary city policies, Wu was quick to defend her home city. 

"Stop attacking our cities to hide your administration's failures. Unlike the Trump administration, Boston follows the law," Wu fired back. 

Wu was one of several "sanctuary city" mayors who defended Boston's local immigration laws before the House Oversight Committee earlier this year. 

"I think you have to use every single tool available to you, and I think we saw in California how effective it can be to use the tools of the law, even though the Trump administration thinks itself above the law," Mamdani said on Monday. 

Earlier this year, protests rejecting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Trump-led deportation rollout delved into riots in Los Angeles. For the first time in 60 years, the president federalized the National Guard without the request of the state's governor. 

California Gov. Gavin Newsom, widely considered a 2028 presidential hopeful, sued Trump for his so-called "unlawful" deployment of the National Guard without Newsom's consent. 

Newsom and Trump have since been duking out the constitutional legality of such a move, and the California governor has been seizing any opportunity to troll the president

As Trump continues to push border security, fulfilling his leading campaign promise, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum rejected the Trump administration's attempt to send U.S. troops into Mexico. 

"It is through belief in the convictions that you hold in the very fabric of the city you represent, that you are able to fight back against an administration that is seemingly hellbent on tearing apart the city," Mamdani said on Monday.

The self-described Democratic socialist has joined national Democrats in criticizing Trump's "big, beautiful bill," which Mamdani claimed "will throw millions of New Yorkers off their health insurance, cut SNAP benefits for the hungry, and will make it even more difficult to afford to live in the most expensive city in the United States of America."

While Republicans argue the bill only cuts waste, fraud and abuse in the Medicaid program, according to the Congressional Budget Office, about 10 million more people will be uninsured by 2034 due to Trump's megabill.

The White House did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

Ex-UFC star's son engulfed in controversy over 'horrible' pro wrestling incident

The son of former UFC champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson was heavily criticized following an incident at a pro wrestling show over the weekend.

Raja Jackson went into the ring to beat down pro wrestler Syko Stu during KnokX Pro’s KnokXperience event in California on Saturday night. The incident, streamed live on Kick, appeared to show Jackson slam Stu onto the mat and punch him more than 20 times before he was ripped off of him by fellow wrestlers.

It appeared Stu was left unconscious in the middle of the ring. The moment stoked controversy on social media.

"Rampage" Jackson released a statement on X.

"I want to clear up the misinformation about my son Raja. I’ve been confirmed that the wrestler ( Stewart Smith aka Syko Stu) is awake and stable. Raja was unexpectedly hit in the side of the head by him moments before Smith’s match, Raja was told that he could get his ‘payback’ in the ring,i thought it was apart of the show," he wrote. "It was bad judgement, and a work that went wrong.

"Raja is a MMA fighter not a pro wrestler and had no business involved in an event like this. I don’t condone my son’s actions AT ALL! He suffered a concussion from sparring only days ago and had no business doing anything remotely close to physical contact. As a father, im deeply concerned with his health AND the well being of Mr. Smith. That being said I’m very upset that any of this happened, but my main concern now is that Mr. Smith will make a speedy recovery. I apologize on his behalf and to KICK for the situation."

KnokX Pro condemned the incident in a post on Facebook.

"First and foremost our thoughts and prayers are with our brother Mr. Stuart Smith (Syko Stu) as he remains a priority and we are monitoring his well being," the organization said. "What was supposed to be a planned and agreed upon wrestling spot, turned into a selfish, irresponsible act of violence against Mr. Smith. This egregious act is reprehensible and never should have occurred. 

"In the 17 years of operation of KnokX Pro Wrestling Academy, there has never been anything as heinous take place such as this and we apologize to our patrons and fans."

WWE star Rusev was among those who reacted on social media.

Syko Stu is a U.S. Army veteran and used pro wrestling to get back into civilian life. He's also been open about suffering from PTSD.

Raja Jackson has yet to speak on the incident. His father was a pro wrestler briefly for Total Nonstop Action (TNA).

Conservative activist slams Cracker Barrel; company left reeling after logo redesign

Anti-woke crusader Robby Starbuck released a devastating video takedown of Cracker Barrel's leadership, making the case that the restaurant's logo and decor change are the culmination of a years-long campaign to cater to the far Left and abandon the values of its middle-America customer base.

Starbuck, who has brought major companies including John Deere, Target, and Harley-Davidson to heel by exposing their woke policies, described Cracker Barrel’s logo makeover as going from "old American nostalgia" to something "cold, dead, lifeless and modern" in a 15-minute video. He said that, while the Cracker Barrel brand is often associated with American tradition, the company is "infested with left-wing activists who are more interested in safe spaces, pronouns and virtue signaling than they are in their customers."

In his video, Starbuck highlights Cracker Barrel’s support for LGBTQ+ organizations and events, such as Nashville Pride, River City Pride and the Human Rights Campaign (HRC).

He also noted that the company displayed rocking chairs with rainbow colors and LGBTQ+ insignia. The company even went so far as to place one in its Tennessee corporate office. Rocking chairs are practically synonymous with Cracker Barrel, with the restaurant’s long porches lined with them at locations nationwide.

"The fact that it's located there is important to this story because what's happened here is a microcosm of the parasitic operating procedure of left-wing activists," Starbuck said. "They don't just wanna force their soulless, godless, hedonistic vision of the future onto blue hellscapes that their party controls. 

"No, it's much more important to them that they shove it down into your towns, into your kids' schools and into your way of life. So, sticking a pro-trans rocking chair into their headquarters in a predominantly conservative town is exactly the type of thing they revel in doing."

Starbuck then pointed to the company’s involvement with HRC and participation in the Out and Equal Workplace Summit. For the Out and Equal conference, Cracker Barrel made rocking chairs in every color of the rainbow, representing the LGBTQ+ flag. Out and Equal even gave Cracker Barrel an award for having 2018’s top LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group (ERG).

CRACKER BARREL DISMISSES CRITICS AS 'VOCAL MINORITY' WHILE RIVAL RESTAURANT ADDS TO BACKLASH

The restaurant chain previously participated in HRC’s Corporate Equality Index, which measures "corporate policies, practices, and benefits pertinent to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer employees," according to the organization’s website. A company’s score on the index is determined by how inclusive HRC judged it to be toward LGBTQ+ employees.

Cracker Barrel told Fox News Digital on Friday that it "has not participated in the Human Rights Campaign Index or had any affiliation with HRC in several years."

Two Cracker Barrel employees are called out by name in Starbuck’s video, Steve Smotherman and Rachel CampBell. 

Smotherman was the head of management training and development at Cracker Barrel for 15 years, Starbuck asserted, showing a screenshot that appeared to be from LinkedIn. Smotherman, who eventually left Cracker Barrel for Out and Equal, serves on HRC's Business Advisory Council in Washington, D.C.

Starbuck describes Smotherman as "the archetype activist employee that fueled the rise of DEI in corporate America." He also slammed CampBell, a manager of training and development at Cracker Barrel, for publicly expressing excitement over the company’s rainbow pride rocking chairs.

"And it’s important to note all of this because these types of employees play a critical role in turning companies away from the values of their customers and moving the companies toward wokeness," Starbuck said.

Gilbert Dávila, a member of Cracker Barrel’s board of directors, was also referenced in Starbuck’s video. Dávila, who joined Cracker Barrel’s board in 2020, has worked at several major companies, including Disney, Coca-Cola and Procter & Gamble. He’s also the co-CEO of DMI Consulting, which looks to "infuse cultural relevance and creativity into every solution."  Starbuck asserted that Dávila, and others like him are responsible for the "woke advertising push" seen over the last few years.

In the end, Starbuck emphasizes that the controversy around Cracker Barrel’s logo change is about more than the removal of a man in his chair leaning on a barrel.

"It's very, very important to understand that the Cracker Barrel story is not about a logo. It's not at all about a logo, it is about a country, it is our heritage, and it is a culture. It's about a power structure built to tell us that we are somehow backwards, embarrassing or bigoted," Starbuck said.

"A conservative can't give their money to Cracker Barrel. A Christian cannot give their money to Cracker Barrel, and so we won't," he added.

As Starbuck sees it, the Cracker Barrel debacle is a win-win for conservatives, saying that the company will either have to double down and lose customers or revert back to its 1977 logo to retain its customer base.

Patriots coach Mike Vrabel seeks out 'rats' after leaked injury report: 'We’ll figure that out'

It’s hunting season for the New England Patriots, and head coach Mike Vrabel is on the lookout for "rats." 

Speaking to the media Thursday, Vrabel was asked about reports that second-year receiver Ja'Lynn Polk would miss the entire season with a shoulder injury that requires surgery. 

Vrabel initially declined to add anything to the rumors before taking a swipe at reporters and their "sources."

"No, other than I’d like to find out where some of these come from," Vrabel said. "You know, some of these rats around here. So, we’ll figure that out." 

Polk, a second-round pick in 2024, was injured during the Patriots' preseason opener when he was tackled on a short run by Washington Commanders defensive back Noah Igbinoghene, ESPN reported.

Polk left the game bracing his right arm and has been sidelined since.

Sources told ESPN the length of Polk’s absence would be determined after surgery.

Trump hints at federal crackdown in Chicago amid anti-crime push in DC

President Donald Trump seemed to hint at the possibility of taking his D.C. crime crackdown to Chicago.

"After we do this will go to another location, and we'll make it safe, also. We're going to make our country very safe," he said when speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Friday. "We're going to make our cities very, very safe. Chicago's a mess."

Trump called Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson "grossly incompetent" and said his administration would handle the windy city next. He also said the people of Chicago were "screaming" for federal assistance in cutting down the crime rate.

"We'll straighten that one out probably next," he added. "That'll be our next one after this and it won't even be tough."

While he said Chicago would be next, the windy city wasn't the only place the president called out. He also said the federal crackdown could come to his hometown, New York City.

Last week, in an unprecedented move, Trump implemented a federal crime crackdown in D.C. and brought in additional law enforcement resources to clean up the nation's capital. His approach appears to be working, as Washington, D.C.'s Metropolitan Police Department confirmed to Fox News Digital on Thursday that there has not been a homicide in the city in more than a week, coinciding with the takeover.

During his 2024 presidential campaign, Trump threatened to federalize D.C. because of the city's struggle to control crime. The Aug. 3 attempted carjacking and brutal beating of a former Department of Government Efficiency staffer brought the issue back to the spotlight, sparking national debate. The following week, on Aug. 11, Trump declared a crime emergency in D.C., sparking the federal takeover.

"The city government’s failure to maintain public order and safety has had a dire impact on the federal government’s ability to operate efficiently to address the nation’s broader interests without fear of our workers being subjected to rampant violence," Trump's executive order read.

On Friday, Trump declared on Truth Social that D.C. was "safe again" and that it would soon "be great again." He also praised law enforcement personnel for "doing a fantastic job."

NFL boosts security at league offices following deadly shooting at New York headquarters

The NFL has increased security at its offices after a lone gunman opened fire at the league's headquarters in New York City last month, killing four people and injuring one league employee. 

NFL Executive Vice President Jeff Miller confirmed the new security measures to OutKick, adding that the league is "working with the building and tenants within the building on building security." 

"We're very lucky that our security chief, Cathy Lanier, the former police chief in Washington, D.C., has tremendous experience in this space and that we have terrific partners in the building as we look for ways to make it even more secure than it was before."

Four people were killed, and a fifth was wounded inside the 345 Park Avenue building on July 28 when investigators say Shane Tamura, 27, of Las Vegas, opened fire while trying to get to the NFL offices. The building also houses the headquarters of Blackstone. 

One NFL employee was reportedly shot in the lobby during the attack. He attempted to contact co-workers to warn them of the active shooter before calling 911. 

"The NFL is deeply grateful for the global outpouring of support following the tragic act of violence at the New York City building that houses our league office among other organizations," the league said in its first statement regarding the attack.

Earlier this month, the NFL reportedly sent a memo to all 32 teams advising them to enhance security following the deadly shooting. 

Among the recommendations was the proposal to have armed law enforcement or security officers at team and league buildings when players or staff are present. Another recommendation was weapons screenings at those locations.

"The Committee recognizes that these changes will affect day-to-day operations and require an investment of time, coordination, and resources," the memo said, according to ESPN. "However, there is no higher priority than the safety and the sense of security of our players, coaches, staff, and everyone who works in and around our facilities.

Navy pilot rescued from Virginia waters as F/A-18 fleet faces string of recent mishaps

A Navy pilot was rescued from the waters off Virginia on Wednesday after an F/A-18 Super Hornet went down during a routine training flight.

The crash happened around 10 a.m. ET, according to Lt. Jackie Parashar, a spokesperson for Naval Air Force Atlantic. The pilot, assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 83 in Virginia Beach, was found by search and rescue crews at 11:21 a.m. and taken to a local hospital. The jet remains in the water as the Navy investigates the cause.

Once the investigation is complete, the Navy will decide whether to order a safety stand-down, a pause in operations to focus on safety training and risk reduction.

The incident is the latest in a string of F/A-18 mishaps. In May, a Super Hornet slid into the Red Sea after failing to land on the USS Harry S. Truman. Both pilots ejected safely. A week earlier, another jet rolled off the Truman’s deck during a towing operation.

In December, a Super Hornet from the "Red Rippers" of Strike Fighter Squadron 11 at Naval Air Station Oceana was shot down in a friendly fire incident over the Red Sea.

Each F/A-18 costs about $67 million, according to Naval Air Systems Command.

One former senior defense official told Fox News Digital the recent mishaps "deserve to be examined — especially in light of all the other extreme challenges the Navy is facing."

 \The official added, "It’s interesting to me that the F-35 and V-22 receive extensive scrutiny from the press when a mishap occurs, yet the rates of those aircraft stand up well compared to the Navy’s Super Hornets, which somehow get a pass."

Another source familiar with Navy procurement said the recent accidents were not unexpected, which was one reason the service agreed to buy 17 more Super Hornets in 2024.

Since fiscal year 2015, the F/A-18 and its variants — F/A-18E, F/A-18F, and EA-18G — have been involved in 42 Class A flight mishaps, the most serious category, covering accidents that result in death, a destroyed aircraft or more than $2.5 million in damage. 

That averages out to about 4.2 Class A mishaps a year, or 2.18 per 100,000 flight hours, according to data provided to Fox News Digital by Naval Safety Command.

Across all manned Navy aircraft, the average Class A mishap rate was 2.29 per 100,000 flight hours.

In 2023 and 2024, the Navy recorded seven Class A flight mishaps each year. As of August 2025, there have been seven Class A flight mishaps, three involving F/A-18s.

The F/A-18 fleet has also experienced 82 Class B mishaps, accidents involving permanent partial disability, the hospitalization of three or more crew or $600,000 to $2.5 million in damage and 307 Class C mishaps, which involve injuries resulting in missed work or $60,000 to $600,000 in aircraft damage, over the past decade.

NYC public defender terminated over antisemitic social media post targeting Israelis

A public defender with Brooklyn Defender Services (BDS) was fired over a social media post in which he appeared to call for violence against Israelis. Despite sharing the same acronym as the anti-Israel boycott, divestment and sanctions movement, Brooklyn Defender Services is a New York City public defense organization with no affiliation to it.

Lucas Gomez, a public defender, recently responded to a post in which someone asked, "What everyone needs to start asking is ‘who will take 7 million Israelis in?’" Gomez wrote in response ,"No one needs to ask this question when firing squads exist," according to screenshots posted on X by the watchdog group StopAntisemitism.

"An employee from Gomez’s own office alerted us to his vile post calling for ‘firing squads,’" a spokesperson for StopAntisemitism told Fox News Digital, adding that "it is beyond alarming that an attorney entrusted with upholding the law would engage in such violent rhetoric." 

The organization argued that Gomez’s law license should be revoked.

In response to Fox News Digital’s request for comment, Gomez apologized for the post and said the "indefensible" comment came from "misplaced emotions" about the war in Gaza.

"I want to sincerely apologize for my post. It was not only inappropriate but distasteful and offensive. The post came from misplaced emotions related to the ongoing genocide in Palestine and seeing footage of that every day," Gomez told Fox News Digital. "The post was awful, indefensible, and a lapse of judgment. It was not a representation of my character or who I am as a person. It was also not a representation of Brooklyn Defender [Services]."

BDS condemned Gomez’s online comment as "hateful," and announced his termination in a public statement.

"In his recent post on X, Lucas Gomez made a hateful statement that is antithetical to everything BDS stands for and what we unequivocally expect from our employees," BDS Executive Director Lisa Schreibersdorf said. "In addition to advocating violence and antisemitism, Lucas Gomez tarnished the reputation of Brooklyn Defender [Services] and of each of our dedicated public defenders."

Schreibersdorf also said that BDS works to "uplift the humanity of all people and to seek kindness, justice and mercy in our courts and in our society," adding that Gomez’s post was "an affront" to the organization’s work.

The StopAntisemitism spokesperson noted that since Hamas’ Oct. 7 massacre, antisemitism has been "rampant" online.

StopAntisemitism noted in a thread following the screenshots of Gomez’s post, that it had previously featured another New York City public defender on its platform. 

In November 2023, Victoria Ruiz, who was affiliated with New York County Defender Services (NYCDS), was caught tearing down hostage posters. A representative confirmed Ruiz’s identity to Fox News Digital at the time. In a statement to Fox News Digital, NYCDS said Ruiz resigned "effective immediately." NYCDS condemned Ruiz’s "highly insensitive actions."

Trump admin bans federal work-study funds from supporting political activism on college campuses

The Trump administration on Tuesday banned former President Biden-era guidance that allowed taxpayer-funded federal programs to pay students to engage in certain political activities on college campuses.

The Education Department released updated guidance in a news release that stated Federal Work Study (FWS) funds "should focus on jobs that provide real-world work experience instead of political activities."

"Federal Work Study is meant to provide students opportunities to gain real-world experience that prepares them to succeed in the workforce, not as a way to fund political activism on our college and university campuses," Under Secretary of Education Nicholas Kent said in a written statement. 

Kent said that American taxpayers will no longer fund poll workers, voter hotlines or political rallies on campus – and will not require schools to ask students to register to vote if they know the students are ineligible, like foreign students.

The department further requested that educational institutions remind students of federal voting laws, including: only U.S. citizens may vote in federal elections; voting more than once or in multiple states is illegal; falsifying registration information is a federal crime; and voters can only register in the place where they are legally domiciled.

The updated guidance comes in response to President Donald Trump’s executive order titled, "Protecting the Integrity of American Elections." 

DOJ TARGETS NONCITIZENS ON VOTER ROLLS AS PART OF TRUMP ELECTION INTEGRITY PUSH

Trump has since pushed to eliminate what he called "controversial" methods of voting, specifically the use of mail-in voting and voting machines in U.S. elections.

In a lengthy Truth Social post on Monday, Trump asserted, "I am going to lead a movement to get rid of MAIL-IN BALLOTS" as well as "Seriously Controversial VOTING MACHINES."

He said he would sign another related executive order in advance of the 2026 midterm elections.
